February 2003 Meeting Photos:
Phil, David, Frank, Ken, Ray, & Chris
attended. Several last minute cancellations due to illnesses. Weather was not as
bad as predicted. It would have been a good day to meet at a lake. Ray is
getting the details down on the drive train, electronics and smoke system for
his Hellen. Frank brought his fireboat for me to build a plexiglass stand. He
also gave us a tour of his Fairwind. Chris didn't bring the Lady Washington
because the rigging is going up. David brought his just-completed mahogany
runabout seen below. Ken, the new guy, brought this large, detailed tug that
should see some water in the next meeting. I got to show off my in-progress
Midwest Fantail Launch, my first humble endeavor into wood-boat construction. I
demonstrated the Midwest Model VI steam engine and it actually ran well. The
drive system of the variable-speed reversible transmission is complete and
works! Final installation and test run should follow in March.

| David's "Wet 'N Wild" runabout is
finished. |
Nice urethane automotive enamel. |
Good interior detail. It just needs an itty
bitty driver. |

| Ken's (New member) "John Morgan"
tug. |
I think he said it was the largest
ocean-going tug in the world. |
Ray was teasing Ken about the noisy Robbie
gear drive. (Don't sweat it Ken, Ray's tug uses the same drive.) |

Ken got to tour several "tall
ships" in Europe recently. These are a couple of his photos. |
Chris plans to trim out the interior of his
Lady Washington like this. |
